Punk 1976-1980

Punk Rock burst out of the clubs on to the streets.

These were the most important years for Punk movement, suddenly the whole thing became real and it grew... quickly.

You only needed more than an idea, a safety pin and a couple of chords to become Punk. As pace grew so did the ingredients such as anarchy.

Although Mr Mclaren claims ownership of Punk Rock, it would have existed without him.

At this young stage of the movement there appeared to be three distinct types of groups: those who were already creating music and could actually play their instruments such as the Clash and The Stranglers; others who could only just manage to place three cords on a guitar but had a lot of talent which was about to burst, for example groups such as the Banshees; finally a few groups who could make noise, had some talent and fade out too quickly.

A Real Punk (30 years on)

A link to a video interview with Steve Toxin, one of the real Punks from the 1970s, we used to go to gigs together with friends in Norfolk, to name a few: Ian, Andrew, Cindy, Dick and many othersor, many years ago
