Wade : Black Sabbath formed in Birmingham during the late 1960sand were origionally known as Earth.The name change occured in around 69 or 70.It is reported that when guitarist Tony Iommi first met Ozzy Osbourn he was shocked at the sight which greated him on his doorstep... Ozzy appeared with an old shoe tied to the end of a dog lead which he had beendragging around the streets of the city.

"Black Sabbath" was their first official release in 1970."Paranoid", "Master Of Reality", "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath", "Volume Four" and "Sabotage" followed during the next five to six years. Ozzy Osbourn left the band in the late 70s to persue a solo career while Sabbath continued on throughout the 80s with several different vocalists coming and going.
