Jefferson Airplane

From

Listed under : Folk

One of the highlights of Woodstock, they have left us with the incredible song White Rabbit, still trying to fit this group into a catergory... What do you think ?

Keith McManus : Okay, to help get signed in '66 they called their music electronic folk, but seriously, only Takes Off was very folky. Once Signe Anderson left and Grace Slick entered, the similarities to Peter Paul and Mary kind off went away. Even folk rock is a stretch. The Byrds and Burritos were softer, Listen to Baxters or Crown of Creation and tell me thats folk. Hot Tuna is blues based roots music but the Airplane just isn't folk. Drug augmented genius, yes. But folk? It's like caliing Dylan a rapper, because he doesn't really sing.

Bart Milligan : Love thier early stuff: Surrealistic Pillow, Crown of Creation, Voluteers. They were truly ahead of their time.
