Psychodelic FursFrom London, UK Listed under : New Wave Formed in 1977 by the two Butler brothers, but began to emerge with the New Wave scene.
Patrick A : The Furs just seemed diffrent. Maybe it was the sax. Like Roxy Music the presence of this instrument gave a natural edge that other bands didn't have, but wanted. The guitars had a melodic 'wall of sound' noise, especially in the early albums. The music and image of the band were 'cool and sexy' and they showed that pop music could be sleazy and dangerous. In the early 80's everyone who from Punks to Students had a Furs album in their record collection. They had the danger in their sound that people wanted then, but also contained a poetic feel. Obviously, the Fur's seed originated from the Velvet Underground. They were probably the only British band to really capture what Lou Reed had created before in NY but with the GB feel. The Mary Chain and Wasted Youth (Bridge house records) were close contenders. ??: I remember the days of Richard Butlers hauntingly melodic vocals and gravely voice. They had their own sound and style and hit at the right time in music history. As they borrowed parts of the Velvet Underground; as did other's, they were truely unique in their own right and deserve their place in the annals of rock. With respect and recognition for true success. Vote for this artist/group, current rating is : 0
