Radiohead

From Oxford, England

Listed under : Alternative

Jim Z : Radiohead is the most important band in modern Progressive rock. They take risks unlike any other popular artists, and get away with it every time. Over the years and six albums, they have completely altered their sound. Perhaps their importance in rock history is that they sound like no one else, and are still successful. How many bands draw from blues, brit pop, and electronica while still topping the charts. Their first album, Pablo Honey, was a typical Brit Pop album noted only for the sincerity and human tone of Thom Yorke's (vocal, guitar) voice.
Their next album, The Bends, took their songwriting to a new level, and insured them a place in the popular rock world. Their progressive rock classic OK Computer contains some of their best matierial and is considered their classic, along with Kid A, the following album. With it's sweeping electronics, sparse vocals, and repetitive arrangements, Kid A was a shocking metamorphisis from their previous record, but was still hailed as an excellent expeirimental album. The subsequent Amnesiac followed in its footsteps, while retaining its unique qualities. Their most recent album "Hail to the Thief" is a blend of all Radiohead styles, including blues, pop, and electronica. Where they will go next is utterly unpredictable.
