Weather Report

From

Listed under : Jazz Rock

wyatt constantine : One of the best fusion groups is a band called Weather Report. It included the incredible bass player Jaco Pastorius who had toured with Joni Mitchell. They released Black market as thier debut and recorded other albums such as mysterious traveller and heavy weather which put them on the map. With Joe Zawinul on keyboard as well as Wayne Shorter of the Miles Davis quintet they remain probably the best jazz-rock group of all time.

JP: Their first album 'Weather Report' built on the experiments of Miles Davis in the 'Bitches Brew' period. The group underwent several personnel changes and it was only when Jaco Pastorius joined Wayne Shorter and Joe Zawinul that they became what is now recognised as jazz rock band. The early albus throught Sweetnighter is often denser and more demanding to listen to. Their most commercially sucessful album 'Heavy Weather' gave them huge popular appeal and contained the single 'Birdland' Their later albums became less consistent but were and continue to be hugely influential.
